Who doesn’t love the thrill of going someplace new? Not knowing what you’re going to discover is part of the excitement, but can also be part of the problem.

On vacation in Greece a few summers ago, one of Sandee’s founders and his girlfriend were looking forward to exploring a beautiful black sand beaches they had heard about from the locals. One afternoon, the pair excitedly set out in search of this illusive destination. Guided only by the hotel’s map that looked straight out of the 1980s, they ended up spending the day frustratedly driving hours on unpaved roads and through an overgrown field taller than their tiny rental car.

Finally, our exhausted couple found a stunning beach just like they had pictured.

But, by that time, they were starving, and hadn’t brought any food along. How far away would they have to go to find a place to eat? It was also starting to get dark. Was there a safe route home, or should they try to find a nearby hotel and spend the night there instead?
